At Nurun Foundation, we’ve always believed in the importance of empowering young people. Our youth programs focus on helping to increase the self-esteem and leadership abilities of young men and women. The programming is fun, youth-friendly and educational.

The Bangladeshi Sports Club organizes sport activities like soccer tournaments for youth and adults in the community

We are happy to help make connections with other organizations. Referrals and information are provided for senior day care services, victims of domestic violence, job training, and legal assistance

The “Going Green” program emphasizes the importance of improving and protecting the environment. Going Green is a partnership with the department of transportation and the MTA in NYC. Past participants have helped renovate a community gardenand a public pedestrian plaza at Liberty Avenue, NYC.

We believe an engaged community is an empowered community. Nurun Foundation offers opportunities to become more knowledgeable about what’s going on where clients live and work.Local elected officials and other community leaders often come to Nurun Foundation talk about issues impacting our clients.

The excitement and gratitude of the children are uncontainable when they see a new piece of colorful clothing, and a clean pair of black school shoes. Over the years, Nurun Foundation has provided new and gently used clothing for children in dire need. Nurun encourages supporters to donate the funds necessary to provide the items needed, but if a contribution of shoes or clothing is made, donors are asked to assist with the shipping.

Youth in grades K-12 can sign up for one-to-one tutoring as well as an afterschool enrichment program.

Immigrant women, especially those from Bangladesh, are often expected to maintain their traditional way of life despite their new lives in a new country. Nurun Foundation has become a gathering place for women seeking help and support with adjusting to their new environment and country. Women can take driving, ESL, and computer classes
Youth get help creating resumes, filling out job applications, and finding summer or afterschool jobs and internships.

Adults who are recent immigrants are often faced with challenges that can isolate them from others in their community. Nurun Foundation’s adult programs help give adults the skills and confidence they need to thrive in the communities they live and work.

Some of the biggest challenges facing orphans and vulnerable children are hunger and malnutrition. Nurun Foundation volunteers have seen hundreds of children waiting in food lines for a single meal. No doubt, food is essential for survival, yet numerous children, especially orphans, receive only one meal a day. Nurun foundations feed children at The Welcome Places in Sarail and Dhaka. Though these are sites where the food distribution regularly takes place, Nurun Foundation distributes and delivers food parcels to various households in other surrounding areas.
